"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The woman at the well said to Jesus, "Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." (John 4:20) I love the account of the woman at the well because she was one of the first evangelists! She believed He was the Messiah, and she couldn't contain her excitement and ran to tell.
I sometimes notice, as Christians, we can get a little judgy about how other Christians worship, if it's different from ours. As I read Jesus's words, it reminds me that it's the posture of our heart that is important. He said worship in Spirit and truth. We worship in Spirit when we seek a relationship with the God who is Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our comforter, counselor, and brings conviction so that our hearts will be right with the Lord. I'm so thankful we have the Holy Spirit in us! When we worship in Spirit it isn't just singing a song or casually telling the Lord He is good. Rather it is allowing the Spirit to speak to us and lead us in how the Lord would have us worship Him! He is worthy!
Jesus also says to worship in truth. In John 14:6, He says "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". Jesus IS the truth, so we worship Him and in the truth of who He is and what He has done for us!
The Lord knew this woman would worship in Spirit and in truth! He went out of His way to meet her and not only give her freedom from sin and shame, but also to allow her the privilege of spreading the Good News.
I pray today that we have a heart that the Father seeks! I pray that we worship in Spirit and in truth. I'm asking the Lord to meet you right where you are and remind you that you are chosen, loved, and redeemed! Spring Up O' Well!
